Elephant Saved . . .

     (Times Newspapers)

Southwark Council has announced that the 'iconic' elephant statue which currently sits in front of the mall will be saved and integrated into the regeneration.

From the London Paper: Ionic Red Elephant Is Saved

That's nice. We'll see what happens when it happens.

Bah. As a recent migrant to this area, I have no love for this overgrown kinder surpise toy. Aren't there more important things to save?

PS Not seen any work done on the Strata Tower on the old Castle House site at the south E&C roundabout for months now. They have most of the skeleton of the building done, but stalled before finishing the exterior and glazing.

Thanks for the comment. Yeah, too much huh? 'overgrown surprise kinder toy' about describes it.

I wondered about the Strata Tower and others like it. What about all the development just down Walworth Road? The cranes were still swinging when I left, but I wondered what happened to them as well. . . .

I'm not sure what you're referring to I'm afraid. Which bit of walworth road?

Over a pint with a friend I discovered: Apparently if you don't finish the roof on a structure then you jump through a legal loophole which means you are exempt from paying tax on the building... you see, I had been pondering the same question.

Hi. I was referring to the development basically just down from the Heygate - across the street from the bottom of Claydon House. There was a big vacant lot with cranes swinging inside when I left. I wonder if the construction is still going on or if it stopped dead.
